    McGill University Library advances teaching, learning, research and community service by providing outstanding collections, access to the world of knowledge, excellence in service and an appropriate library environment, all of which are client-focused and responsive to the needs of the McGill community. McGill Library includes over 6 million items in its collections. Many printed books and journals are available but the number of e-journals and e-books has increased dramatically. Hundreds of computers in e-zones are available in all branch libraries in a secure environment and are used for accessing online courses, reading library materials and e-mail, wordprocessing and data manipulation for assignments, and for accessing the internet.

    The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), established in 1962, is an integral part of the infrastructure of social science research. ICPSR maintains and provides access to a vast archive of social science data for research and instruction, and offers training in quantitative methods to facilitate effective data use. To ensure that data resources are available to future generations of scholars, ICPSR preserves data, migrating them to new storage media as changes in technology warrant. In addition, ICPSR provides user support to assist researchers in identifying relevant data for analysis and in conducting their research projects.

     

    The Institut de la statistique du Québec was established by an Act passed by the National Assembly of Québec on June 19, 1998. The mission of the Institut is to provide reliable and objective statistical information on the situation of Québec as regards all aspects of Québec society for which such information is pertinent. The Institut is the central authority for the production and dissemination of statistical information for the government departments and bodies, except information produced for administrative purposes. The Institut is responsible for carrying out statistical surveys of general interest. The Institut establishes and keeps up to date a Québec population record. The Institut shall also prepare each year an estimate of the population of municipalities. The Institut shall inform the public on the comparative state and evolution of the total remuneration of the employees governed by a collective agreement of the Government and of the school boards, colleges and institutions, and the total remuneration of other Québec employees of any category it determines.

    At OECD, representatives from 30 Member countries meet to exchange information and harmonize policy with a view to maximizing economic growth within Member countries and assisting non-Member countries develop more rapidly. The OECD Washington Center was set up in 1966 to market the publications of the OECD in the United States and to serve as an information center for the U.S. market.     The Open Data Foundation (ODaF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the adoption of global metadata standards and the development of open-source solutions promoting the use of statistical data. We focus on improving data and metadata accessibility and overall quality in support of research, policy making, and transparency, in the fields of economics, finance, healthcare, education, labor, social science, technology, agriculture, development, and the environment. While we see this information as being primarily statistical in nature, it is understood that it can be drawn from a wide variety of sources and therefore may include information not traditionally seen as such.

CIESIN seeks to provide researchers, decision makers, managers, journalists and the general public with access to usable data and information about environmental and socioeconomic changes and environmental sustainability at global, regional and local scales. CIESIN utilizes its expertise in research and measurement, spatial visualization, electronic data management, and training to illuminate the reciprocal linkages between humans and the environment.
