Of the many bibliographies for which Dr. Lawrence Lande has been
responsible, those on display are both the most representative and among the
most important. The Lawrence Lande Collection of Canadiana is an important
bibliography and a fine example of book making. The bibliographies of the Eskimo
and Indian materials represent important advances in providing bibliographic
access to material relating to Canada's First Nations. And The Development
of the Voyageur Contract, 1686-1821 is a pioneer effort in documenting this
aspect of fur trade history. Dr. Lande's long career as a collector of Canadiana
and begetter of bibliographies has created for him a lasting place in the
history of Canadian bibliophily.
