Guidelines on Criteria for Reappointment and Tenure for Tenure Track Librarian Staff (Nov. 20, 2007)
Librarians who are preparing applications for a sabbatic leave may benefit by discussing their application and sabbatical plan with a colleague who has recently been granted a sabbatic leave. Several members of the MAUT Librarians' Section have volunteered to share their experiences and insights about the process of applying for sabbatic leaves:
The Library Tenure Committee considers all applications for promotion to Associate Librarian with tenure, grants of tenure to Associate or Full Librarians, and initial rankings at the level of Associate Librarian. This committee makes recommendations to the University Tenure Committee for the Libraries, or in the case of new appointments, to the University Tenure Committee for Recruitment.
The Committee consists of a Chair, four elected librarians with staggered, renewable terms of two years, and two alternates. The chair is selected according to the "Process for choosing a chair of the Library Tenure Committee."
Criteria for eligibility
All tenured librarians (excepting the Director of Libraries) who are not members of, or candidates for, the University Tenure Committee for the Libraries are eligible for election.
The Promotion to Librarian Committee considers all applications for promotion to the rank of full librarian, and initial rankings at the level of full librarian. This committee makes recommendations to the Director of Libraries regarding the establishing of a Statutory Selection Committee.
The Committee consists of four elected librarians with staggered, renewable terms of two years, and one alternate. The committee selects its chair from among its members.
Criteria for eligibility All tenured full librarians (excepting the Director of Libraries) are eligible for election.
The University Tenure Committee for the Libraries considers recommendations from the Library Tenure Committee for all promotions to Associate Librarian with tenure and grants of tenure to Associate or Full Librarians.
The Committee consists of: the Director of Libraries as chair, 2 tenured librarians (and one alternate) and 3 other tenured members of the academic teaching staff (and one alternate) nominated by Senate Nominating Committee.
Criteria for eligibility
All tenured librarians (excepting the Administrative Librarians, the Associate Director and the Director of Libraries) who are not members of, or candidates for, the Library Tenure Committee are eligible for election.
