Off-Campus Access and IP Control

Off Campus access

Access to all licensed electronic resources offered at McGill is controlled by IP address.  McGill users can access all electronic resources from outside the campus via three modes:

  From Montreal:
(modem - local) Dialup Access Service (DAS)

Long distance from Canada and the U.S.:
(modem - long distance) Dialup Access Service (DAS) -

  • DAS access (long distance)
  •   VPN - Virtual Private Network    (Local/International)
VPN service enables you to connect to the McGill network from a non-McGill Internet service provider (such as Bell Sympatico High Speed Edition service, High Speed Internet Access from Videotron, or any commercial dialup service).
