    Abstract:

E-Stat is an electronic teaching and learning aid in CD-ROM format published annually by Statistics Canada. E-STAT is available in English and French, as well as for both DOS or MAC. As of October, 1996 a Netscape Version is available on Internet for testing. Designed for the education sector, E-STAT allows users to retrive and manipulate current statistical information, then display it as maps, graphs or worksheets, or export it to diskette. E-STAT can be used in geography courses dealing with economic, social, urban, agricultural, industrial and environmental issues. E-STAT is available only to educational institutions and their staff and students. Once a site has purchased a network licence, staff and students can purchase their own copy.

At present, the CD contains 300,000 series of current and historical data on Canada, plus the results from the 1991 Census. You can map over 600 variables from the 1991 Census of Population at the municipality, county or province level and over 400 variables from 1986 Census of Population. In addition, you can extract and map or graph hundreds of variables from the 1991 Census of Agriculture at census division (county) level and dozens of other variables by eco-district or watershed sub-basin.
